General Information

ScotSTAR (Scottish Specialist Transport and Retrieval) is a division of the Scottish Ambulance Service that exists to provide a national service for the safe and effective transport and retrieval of critically ill neonates, children and adults in Scotland. It was launched on 1st April 2014 and has brought together three existing services – Scottish Neonatal Transport Service (Neonates), Emergency Medical Retrieval Service (Adults), and Scottish Paediatric Retrieval Service (Paediatrics) into one specialist service. The service provides a safe and dedicated transport service for a particular patient group who, because of their clinical condition, require an augmented clinical team during retrieval/transport, and represent the most vulnerable of patients transported in Scotland.

The paediatric team have a multi-professional staff compliment of Consultant and Fellow grade Medical staff and experienced Transport Nurses, who work in tandem with the regional PICU teams. The team operates out of a dedicated transport base at Glasgow Airport.
